About Insect Lady

I am an entomologist, a retired zookeeper and a nurse.  I have been interested in insects since I was 3 years old, when butterflies started landing on me.   I am still just as fascinated with insects now at 59, and love learning more about them each day on the Internet.   I have been doing my “A Look Into The Insect World” slide show and lecture for libraries, schools and interested groups in the Augusta, GA area for 30 years now.

I am a member of LinkedIn, AARP, Helium, Friends Of The Library in the East Central Georgia Library system, and of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church USA in Augusta, GA.  I was initiated into Sigma Theta Tau in 1979 and Alpha Zeta in 1975.

I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BSN in Nursing from the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta, GA in 1979.  I graduated Cum Laude with a BSA in Entomology and with Minors in Anthropology and French from the University of Georgia, Athens, GA in 1975.  I graduated with an AAS in Biological Technology with a Major in Laboratory Animal Care and Management from State University of NY, College of Agricultural and Technology [now Farmingdale State University] at Farmingdale, NY in 1970.  I also received Certificates in AutoCAD Levels 1, 2 and 3 from Augusta Technical College, Augusta, GA between 19910 and 1992 in Augusta, GA.

I am also a haiku writer [since 1999], and have been designing and making traditional and pop-up greeting cards since 1988.  I use my haiku verses in the greeting cards I send friends and home bound, ill or grieving members of my church.  I have had Haiku published in the Senior News in Georgia and limericks published in the Augusta Chronicle and the Georgia Writer’s.

I am an unpublished children’s book writer and hope to have my book on insects, and also articles on insects and my misadventures as a zookeeper published in children’s magazines in the near future.

I am interested in anything pertaining to insects, animals and nature, cats, health, writing, haiku, reading [mainly nonfiction], sewing, AutoCAD and using Corel Draw.  I enjoy learning more about my many interests on the Internet, working on my insect collection, and identifying and cleaning my late father, Philip Bergh’s, 2000 insect slides.   I also enjoy the companionship of my two cats while I work at my computer each day.
